It is still unclear as to whether we can complete half a season – and use those placings to feed into next season’s new leagues. Outdoor sports are permitted from 29 March, so clubs will I’m sure be doing what they can to give everyone pitch time. England Hockey have provided an update here, but, critically, are pressing the government on when car-sharing will be allowed, and this seems bound to be much later – perhaps May. EH hope to have a further update next week.
In a meeting yesterday of the new Area leagues, the feeling was that existing leagues shouldn’t extend beyond mid-May, and, in any event, it would probably be unfair to try to complete the season without car-sharing being permitted, as some teams would be more affected than others. None of this prevents clubs doing what they can, into the summer.
This league, and others that will be feeding into the new Greater London leagues, will follow what the South M/F leagues decide, for consistency of approach with team rankings for next season.
In summary: no decision has been taken yet about this season; please hold on while we get new advice from EH, and a decision from the South.
– The league’s planned dinner in May has been cancelled; a decision on a possible final event for the league has been deferred.
– Clubs will vote before long (by email) on the disbursement of the league’s funds.
– As notified to club officials yesterday, our Treasurer of 13 years Chris Henderson (photo below) sadly died on Monday from Covid. Many thanks for the messages of condolence we’ve received, which will be passed on to his wife Maureen, who is of course the league’s Administrator. Thoughts are of course with Maureen and her family.
